About

A Hong Kong company that makes greeting cards

We draw the artwork, settle the stock with a printer, and they make the cards to our files. Eleven designs, blank inside, one envelope each.

What we actually do

There is no studio with a letterpress in the back. The designs are drawn here — some in gouache on paper and scanned, some straight on a screen — and a printer runs the job to our files and our chosen stock. The cards are made to our artwork rather than picked off a supplier's sheet, which is the part of this that matters.

We keep the range at eleven because a card only earns a slot if we would send it ourselves. When one stops earning it, we drop it rather than pad the shelf with near-duplicates.

Blank stock before the run. Trimming is the step that decides whether the edges look considered or rushed.

The inside, which we leave alone. Uncoated board so a ballpoint bites instead of beading.

The stock

Everything is uncoated, FSC-certified board: 300gsm across most of the range, 320gsm for the three cards that carry gold foil, which need the extra body to keep the foil sitting flat. Uncoated costs a little more and photographs worse than a coated sheet. It is the right choice anyway, because a coated card resists ink and you notice the moment you start writing.

Foil is real foil, stamped, not printed gold ink. It goes dull head-on and catches at an angle. That is how you tell.

Where we are, and how it reaches you

Dorqelin is the trading name of Eazy Trading International Limited, registered in Hong Kong. Cards are packed flat in a rigid mailer with the envelope tucked inside and sent by tracked post. To the United States that is usually three to six business days on the standard rate.

Three things we will not do

We do not print a message inside — the inside is the reason to buy a card rather than send a text. We do not sell multipacks of a single design. And if a different card suits your occasion better we will say so; with eleven designs it is a short conversation.
